PROBABILITY PAPER
The article discusses the use of probability theory in structural design and concrete technology. A mathematically valid interpretation of data obtained from concrete test specimens can be used to express the behaviour that can be expected from mass concrete. Mix design assumes that materials and production techniques are variables that can be assessed statistically to achieve the required economic balance in the final product. The use of a normal probability paper provides a simple graphical method of obtaining basic structural data with the minimum of calculation. The application of this technique enables concrete compression test results to be visually compared with design values, for mean strength and standard deviation values can be read directly from a straight-line graph. /TRRL/
