THE LOCALISATION OF TERRAIN MOVEMENTS THROUGH PHOTO-INTERPRETATION
LOCALIZACION DE MOVIMINETOS DEL TERRENO MEDIANTE LA FOTOINTERPRETACION
The author recalls that road construction operations (construction of large-scale trenches, bridges, embankments, tunnels, etc.) can cause serious geotechnical problems difficult and costly to solve. Photo interpretation enables geological and geomorphologic characteristics of the terrain to be quickly and efficiently determined and the unstable zones, which are a threat to future alignments, to be detected/ Details are given of the main characteristics of a landslide which can be discovered through the interpretation of aerial photographs, of the difficulties arising during the localisation of zones affected by landslides, of the most suitable scales for geotechnical maps, and of causes of unstability. Three examples are given of zones affected by large-scale landslides.
