UNIVERSAL TEST TRENCH AT THE "INSTITUTO DE MATERIALES OF MODELOS ESTRUCTURALES"
BANCO UNIVERSAL DE ENSAYOS DEL INSTITUTO DE MATERIALES Y MODELOS ESTRUCTURALES
The main component of a universal test bench is a large slab, to which are attached other parts of equipment, and which distributes loads. The experimental slab built at the imme is a concrete slab prestressed in both directions, which measures 12 x 24 M and is 1,90 M thick. The load-transmission structure consists of a series of steel beams, columns and supports, which are anchored to the slab and facilitate the application of vertical, horizontal or skew loads through hydraulic jacks fixed to the system. The load-generating equipment comprises (1) 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 tonne hydraulic jacks for static loads and of half that weight for dynamic loads; (2) impulse-giving device capable of producing load variation frequences from 200 to 800 cycles per minute; and (3) a pressure accumulator for applying alternate tensile and compression stresses. /TRRL/
