PARIS EXPERIMENT WITH MINIBUSES
The article discusses the dial-a-bus service now being operated by the Regie Autonome des Transports Parisiens at St. Cloud following studies of similar developments in the USA and Canada. Two types of service are operated-that at peak hours in the form of a shuttle service between the railway stations and St. Cloud which also allows variations to serve users homes, while a slack hour service also allows door-to-door ridership. The vehicles used are 12-seater saviem sb2 minibuses shortened to give an overall length of 6.2M. Intending users telephone the control centre which is in radio contact with the minibuses whether they are on the move or at one of the stations. While the RATP operates minibuses on scheduled services in other areas, the St. Cloud "bushphone" experiment is operated under a financial guarantee from the local authority. /TRRL/
