THE STATUS AND APPLICABILITY OF INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS IN MONTANA. FINAL REPORT
The principal objective of this study was to accumulate information pertinent to Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in Montana which will aid in consolidating and focusing the Montana Department of Transportation's position on ITS. The following tasks were performed as part of this study: Inform and identify concerns of Montana's transportation stakeholders; Identify needs and potential benefits of ITS in Montana; Identify existing systems and related activities in Montana and the Nation; Identify potential systems for Montana; Identify potential funding sources; and Develop a Scope of Work for Phase II. Based on this work, it is recommended that Montana develop an ITS strategic plan, organize and staff an ITS office, promote ITS through education, and stay abreast on national ITS issues.
