BICYCLE CORDON COUNTS
This report presents counts of bicycles crossing the Metro Core Cordon line and the Beltway Cordon line, in the Metropolitan Washington area. The Metro Core Cordon line is an imaginary circle around downtown and parts of northern Arlington. The Beltway Cordon line is the Capital Beltway (I-495/I-95). The purpose of these counts was to supplement the regular cordon count program by counting bicycle specific facilities and low volume roads which might be more likely to attract cyclists than roads with high volumes of motorized vehicular traffic. (Note: the facilities referred to herein as "bicycle specific" permit other types of users, such as joggers and rollerbladers; however, they all prohibit motorized vehicles.)
