RAPID SUB-BASE STABILISATION
A brief description is given of the badger vertiber 2M machine being used for rapid stabilisation of sub-bases on the M25 motorway. The tractor-drawn and power-driven machine works on a vertical axis and consists of four contra-rotating triple tined heads which stir the ground without inverting it. In most cases dry cement is scattered over the aggregate and then watered as necessary while the machine stirs the materials to the right consistency, often in one pass. The machine can also be used for stabilisation of access roads on "forward" contracts and to build up retaining banks over culverts and embankments. /TRRL/
