NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN SIGNPOSTING

NIEUWE ONTWIKKELINGEN IN DE BEWEGWIJZERING

In the Netherlands a national road number will be added to the signposts of arterial routes. Motorways will be indicated by a white a-number on a dark red rectangular background, the other important roads for motor vehicles by a black n-number on a yellow background. The European e-road numbers will be mounted on individual posts. All motorway exits will be identified by an individual name which associates with the upper place-name on the signposts for the direction concerned, which name will also be shown on the road-maps. The parking places along motorways will be accommodated with information panels indicating outstanding recreational and commercial sites in the surroundings. On the Amsterdam urban ring road a 10 experiments are undertaken with the indication of urban route numbers and district names in black on a white coloured background. During the reconstruction of the Moerdijk bridge the diversion routes required will be indicated by reference numbers, incorporated in the signposts. Drecht tunnel approaches in motorway a 16 will be equipped with signalisation matrices, mounted under the overhead direction signs.
