AIRCRAFT ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTION AND LITIGATION

Aircraft accidents can be attributed to a failure, or error, in the aircraft or one of its subsystems, in its basic design, or to forces outside of the aircraft such as air traffic controllers or maintenance personnel. This book was prepared as a guide for attorneys and experts in the field of aircraft accident reconstruction and litigation. Many engineering aspects of aircraft accidents are treated keeping in mind the tremendous number of possible failures or errors that can occur within the systems. Also, some approximate methods are provided to the attorney by which some preliminary findings can be made. The book also addresses the regulations and investigative procedures of the federal government, including those that govern the design, production, and operation of aircraft; specifically those of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). In addition to these civilian agencies, military specifications and accident investigative procedures are covered. The final chapter provides a compendium of applicable state laws. An index is provided. A separate Addendum which accompanies this book provides a list of aircraft accident investigative experts and their fields of expertise, along with their addresses and telephone numbers, and information on where to obtain documents.
