PERFORMANCE AND DURABILITY OF BITUMINOUS MATERIALS. 29: NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN WEARING COURSES
New materials are being made available to the road surfacing industry for surfacing in all situations from motorways to minor country roads. This paper considers some of the alternative materials being introduced particularly those which have become established in other European countries. Materials discussed include porous asphalt, hot-mixed thin surfacings, ultra thin surfacings and micro surfacings. Reasons for the the slow establishment of porous asphalt in the UK are considered and prices across Europe compared. Procedures for laying thin surfacings are briefly outlined. For the covering abstract see IRRD 875331.
