A NONLINEAR HYDROLOGIC MODEL FOR CALCUTTA TOWN SYSTEM
Complex processes, such as, in the hydrological response of a sewered catchment to a precipitation occurrence can never be fully replicated in a computation due to incomplete technical understanding of the processes and the infeasibility of detailing the countless number of pieces involved, resort is made to simulation of response of a conceptually equivalent system. A nonlinear hydrologic system response model for an urban sewered catchment of the city of Calcutta has been studied herein considering a conceptual nonlinear reservoir and unsteady effect of flow. Data from a continous recording type raingauge located at Alipore meteorological observatory, Calcutta, has been taken as input to the system and companion runoff records from the Palmer's Bridge Pumping Station, where the town outfall sewer enters, has been taken as output to the system. A fair agreement between the regenerated values from the model and the observed values has been noticed.
