A MODEL TO PREDICT THE EFFECTS OF URBANIZATION ON WATERSHED RESPONSE
Storm runoff from partial urbanized catchments cannot be a homogeneous event. In general it is the response of two different systems, i.e. pervious and impervious areas, to rainfall input. A model for the separation and simulation of these components was developed on the basis of two parallel cascades of linear reservoirs. Optimum model parameters were found by a search technique for about 200 flood events in 4 catchments over a period of 21 years with increasing urbanization (Ruhr District in West Germany). It is shown by the analysis of the parameters that the method is capable to predict urbanization effects on watershed responses.
