ALGEBRAIC METHODS FOR CREEP ANALYSIS OF CONTINUOUS COMPOSITE BEAMS
The authors propose a simplified time-dependent analysis for continuous steel-concrete composite beams with flexible shear connection, subjected to static actions, settlements of the supports, shrinkage, and prestressing of the concrete slab. Quadrature rules (algebraic methods) are used to approximate the integral terms. This approximation reduces the integral-differential system to a differential system. This reduction gives approximate solutions of the viscoelastic problem directly at the final time, without consideration of real stress history. Some algebraic methods known from the literature are applied to continuous composite beams subjected to the four different actions studied separately. Subsequently, the numerical results derived are compared with the findings of the accurate numerical analysis, and the validity of each simplified procedure is discussed. In conclusion, some information on the practical application of the effective modulus and the mean stress methods via routine computer programs are provided.
