COVER-SUBSIDENCE SINKHOLE EVALUATION OF STATE ROAD 434, LONGWOOD, FLORIDA. DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE
A discussion of a paper with the aforementioned title by Foshee and Bixler, published in this journal (Volume 120, Number 11, November 1994), is presented. Discusser Day comments on soil raveling, which leads to subsidence of the ground or sinkhole activity. Day suggests that the raveling index proposed by the authors will not always identify severity of conditions. Day redefines the raveling index for granular soil based on total overburden pressure and cone tip resistance. Discussion is followed by closure from the authors.
