A HYBRID EXPERT-GIS FOR WIDE-AREA INCIDENT MANAGEMENT
It took more than three years to build a micro-computer based wide area incident management system at Virginia Tech's Research Center of Excellence. The authors describe the system's architecture and how it processes data collected from thousands of traffic incidents in Northern Virginia. Because of its adaptability the system is expected to be used in other regions of the country.
