DESIGN MANUAL FOR ROADS AND BRIDGES. VOL 5, SECTION 2, PART 4. PROVIDING FOR CYCLISTS
The purpose of this new Advice Note within the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges is to highlight the need to take into account the requirements of cyclists when planning and designing new all purpose trunk roads, or making improvements to existing ones. Guidance is provided on the provision, or otherwise, of cycling facilities when planning or designing new all purpose trunk roads or making improvements to existing ones. In particular, reference is made to the factors to be considered: when cycle crossing facilities might be required; when cycle tracks might be provided; to alleviating the difficulties of cyclists at roundabouts; and the use of subways by cyclists. The procedures when these considerations should be made are also mentioned. (A)
