CONSIDERATIONS IN THE SMALL SCALE MODELLING OF MASONRY ARCH BRIDGES
This paper presents the early findings of a research project, funded by the EPSRC, to investigate the feasibility of modelling masonry arch structures at small scale. To ensure the correct scaling of the effects of the self weight of the structure and fill the models will be tested under increased gravity loads on a geotechnical centrifuge. The preliminary work reported here has included a study of previous small scale masonry research, materials assessments, and development of an arch construction method and loading system compatible with the centrifuge.
