COMPUTER VISION FOR MASONRY VAULT TESTING

Discussion centres on the use of computer vision in the monitoring and interpretation of experimental data for laboratory tests undertaken on model masonry vaults as part of an associated research programme concerned with arch bridge assessment. Following presentation of pertinent aspects of the vault testing programme, a brief overview of relevant computer vision factors is given before a case-study is considered in detail. Both qualitative and quantitative assessment is considered regarding the test-to-destruction of a 1m span masonry vault. Issues, including those relating to matters of scale and resolution, are raised and consideration given to further development of 'intelligent' video data capture in the context of masonry vault assessment.
