WEATHER ROUTING: SHIP PERFORMANCE CURVES
The art of optimum ship weather routing is intrinsically linked with vessel performance. Every vessel will have differing power and hull characteristics and thus each individual vessel will have its own unique response characteristics with regard to its performance in a seaway. This article reviews the underlying philosophy of performance curves and discusses a couple of methods that are currently in use.
