INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON DUI EDUCATION AND PREVENTION: WELCOMING REMARKS AND INTRODUCTORY COMMENTS
These introductory comments summarize the current situation with regard to alcohol-related traffic fatalities and legislative initiatives for preventing drunk driving. The theories underlying interventions to change behavior are then examined. There are three major theories: rational empirical; normative/reeducative; and power coercive. Final comments concern the Haddon Matrix factors that may reduce crash fatalities and injuries. These include human, vehicle, and environmental factors for pre-event, event, and post-event.
