LONGITUDINAL BEHAVIOUR OF A HYDROFOIL CRAFT IN ROUGH SEAS
The longitudinal behavior of a hydrofoil craft having inherent stability in rough seas described by the significant values of pitch and heave amplitudes, the significant amplitudes of the variation of the foils' immersion, and their angle of attack, and the significant amplitudes of the accelerations acting on the craft, is affected by the foil systems, the foil configuration, the geometrical characteristics of the foils, as well as the craft speed, and the characteristics of the sea. The results of the investigation of the influence of the craft, the foils and seas parameters upon the longitudinal behavior of a hydrofoil craft are presented. The investigation was made using a digital computer. Finally, the paper contains some useful remarks for the craft designer.
