ECTC PROVIDES GUIDELINES FOR ROLLED EROSION-CONTROL PRODUCTS
The use of rolled erosion-control products (RECP) is on the rise, and as a result, engineers and designers need to know the effectiveness of these products in slope protection, stream bank rehabilitation, and channel lining applications. The two types of RECP are temporary degradable and long-term nondegradable. Documentation of past performance, full-scale field and laboratory testing, industry standards, design programs, and field experience are used to evaluate and select RECP. This article describes guidelines that are being developed for RECP by the Erosion Control Technology Council, which includes 13 RECP manufacturers. These guidelines will aid in the selection of RECPs that will reduce surface water runoff, control sediment release, and eliminate soil losses from construction sites.
