DETERMINATION OF THE EQUIVALENT ROUGHNESS OF PIPING
The experimental investigations show that the classification of roughness into artificial and natural is not correct. The classification of roughness into uniform and non-uniform is independent of its origin. The numerical value of an equivalent roughness as a characteristic of a given pipe, can only be found experimentally, for the quadratic drag zone. The definitions generally given in the scientific and industrial literature for equivalent roughness are not synonymous. Detailed investigations of the effect of the roughness structure, that is, the degree of its dispersion with respect to shape, size and disposition, on the magnitude of the friction factor are necessary in order to improve the accuracy in the determination of lambda.
