TARGETING TRAFFIC ENGINEER EFFORTS AND POLICE EFFORTS TOGETHER TO REDUCE ACCIDENTS
This paper is based on a project in which the Traffic Engineering approach of prioritizing high accident locations was extended to an enforcement effort of the Monroe County Sheriff Department, through a grant from the State Office of Highway Safety Planning (O.H.S.P.). The objective of the project is to reduce injury accidents and enhance safety throughout the county problem areas by increasing enforcement activities at the identified high accident locations. The method used to identify these locations is basically the accident rate method with special emphasis on injury accidents.
