SCOOT IN THE USA
In 1992, the first SCOOT (Split, Cycle time, Offset, Optimization Technique) system in the United States was actuated in Oxnard California on a string of 16 traffic signals. The variations in flow caused by road detours, accidents, new development, weather, seasons, holidays, special events, changing work schedules are sensed and timing is smoothly adjusted automatically. SCOOT has the attributes of an IVHS system and could be the system of choice for small and mid-sized cities in its current form.
