SELF-VENTILATED TRACTION MOTOR FOR BOTH DIESEL AND ELECTRIC TRACTION
Nose-suspended design applied by British Railways to 128 electric multiple-units under construction for the Great Northern suburban electrification is described. High torque with low-speed characteristics on full-field was incorporated to give required performance economically under suburban-train operations. High level of rheostatic braking was provided and flash-over risks minimized by low-voltage levels per communator segment.
