TECHNOLOGY HAS MOVED FASTER THAN POLITICS
This article looks at the progress made in implementing 100 percent baggage screening at airports over the years since the Lockerbie bombing prompted tighter security measures. Following the Lockerbie tragedy, the U.S. is said to have pressed vigorously for improved security at European airports. Reportedly they waved the big stick Foreign Airports Security Act which meant U.S. landing rights held by overseas carriers could be removed for noncompliance.
