INTERPRETATION OF THE RESPONSE OF ELASTIC SYSTEMS TO FLOW-INDUCED EXCITATION
Qualitative predictions were made for the frequency, amplitude, and phase response of a circular cylinder that was supported elastically in flowing water and air. The predictions were based on fluid-excitation criteria. They were compared with experimental results to confirm the interpretation of fluid-excitation of an elastic system.
