EUROPEAN TRANSPORT ECONOMICS: CHAPTER 6. TRANSPORT AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENTS
This chapter presents some results obtained in assessing the private sector's response to transport infrastructure improvement. It indicates various elements of the impact of infrastructure on the private sector. Topics discussed include: (1) some theoretical ideas on infrastructure and regional development; (2) some studies which focus on the impact of transport infrastructure on productivity in regions; (3) a review of studies which consider the role of transport infrastructure as a location factor, influencing the location of private investment or employment; (4) approaches using an integrated analysis of the productivity and relocation effects of transport infrastructure on regional development.
