MACHINERY SPACE FIRE DETECTING TEST. PHASE II
A series of small scale ship fire tests were undertaken. These tests were intended to measure the comparative response of various types of fire detecting systems and determine the proper location of individual detectors under various environmental conditions. The report gives some indication of the feasibility of total machinery space protection by fire detectors. One hundred and five devices of six different types were installed. The fire locations and ventilation conditions were varied to indicate difference in response time due to these factors. The test fire positions were located at the completion of detector installation. These tests again demonstrated the importance of environmental conditions of placement of various types of detection devices.
