EXPERIENCES ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF RULES FOR HIGH SPEED CRAFT

Recent advances in high speed craft technology and developments in national and international legislation will have considerable economic and environmental impact on marine transportation for this decade and beyond. The introduction of new hull forms, construction materials and propulsion machinery producing, generally faster and safer ferries and cargo craft, heralds the dawn of a new shipbuilding industry. In the light of these developments, Lloyd's Register has formulated a new set of Rules for Special Service Craft. This paper gives a summary of the activities involved and experiences gained during the development of these Rules and Regulations.
