NEW SYSTEM FROM NORWAY
A new container handling system specially designed for loading and unloading of high speed container vessels claims to reduce the time needed for loading and unloading a vessel by approximately 50%. The system, called the "Container Pallet Transfer (CPT) System", has a capacity of 900 TEU per hour and can be adopted to the various types of vessels. The CPT system is based on a mega-pallet concept where up to 20 containers with a total weight of up to 400 tons are placed on a mega-pallet. The mega-pallets are transferred from the quay terminal to the vessel by fully automatic transfer trolleys. To obtain the required capacities, the mega-pallet is designed to allow the transfer trolleys to be driven in under the mega-pallet from all sides. In this way it is possible for the total cycle to be broken down into a smaller number of cycles operating simultaneously.
