PROCESSING OF PIPES IN SHIPBUILDING
Every ship is packed with several kilometres of pipe of many different sizes serving a great variety of functions. At the design and pre-installation stage yards give priority to mechanizing the various kinds of work required, including cutting of pipes into sections, flanging, bending and supplementing connection pieces or fittings, at least to the extent that the costs involved make this feasible. The article describes pipe processing lines developed in Germany which can achieve high cost efficiency and superior quality in a short space of time.
