FRACTURE TOUGHNESS EVALUATION SYSTEM OF STEEL PLATES FOR WELDED STRUCTURES
A prerequisite to fabricating welded structures is the evaluation of the toughness of the steel plates to be used and their welded joints for the selection of suitable materials and welding techniques. To all this easily and speedily, a computer-aided material fracture toughness evaluation system has been developed. In its database, this system stores the strength and toughness data of steel plates so far used as well as those of their welded joints which have been produced using welding procedures employed in accordance with usual practice. Design engineers can retrieve necessary engineering material information from a large store of data contained in the system database in dealing with welded structure design problems involving material toughness for the selection of suitable materials and techniques. The system is configured to be user-friendly so that design engineers can access and browse through its database on their personal computers using general-purpose software.
