ELECTRONIC CHART AND TACTICAL RADAR DISPLAYS FOR OPV OPERATIONS

This paper looks at the roles of the OPV and in particular the trade off between cost/complexity and quantities of vessels. It then considers new technology which can reduce costs considerably while retaining high capability in two areas, namely, tactical radar displays and electronic charts. Finally it discusses the relative merits of Admiralty Raster Chart Service (ARCS) and Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS).
