AN EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF SMOKE DIFFUSION IN THE EVENT OF A SHIP FIRE
A shipboard smoke diffusion control system is to be developed to secure enough time to extinguish a fire and to keep the safety of evacuation routes, for which experimental and numerical simulations were carried out using a living space model. This paper presents an experimental simulation of smoke diffusion in a three deck living space model using pigmented salt water and a numerical simulation by the dual zone model. Using a suitable scale factor between the two simulation methods, the smoke diffusion analysis method is confirmed to be valid. Based on these results, the fundamentals of establishing a smokeproof and a smoke control system are developed.
