DESIGNING FOR BULK CARRIER SAFETY
In the past few years the American Bureau of Shipping has embarked on a process of renewal and has re-dedicated itself to the enhancement of marine safety; in particular the use of advanced technology to achieve this. This article focuses on the background to the development of the new criteria, continuing with a description of the critical areas identified of a bulk carrier's structure and the dominant modes of failure to be addressed.
