H.W.B. Dredging Ltd, Grimsby, UK, has recently taken delivery of JOHN M, a 12-inch cutter suction dredger from the Dutch shipyard B.V. Machinefabriek 'De Hollandsche IJssel' based in Oudewater. Working free of mooring wires, on hydraulically operated spud legs, the dredger can cut up to 25m in width, at depths of up to 12.5 metres. Production rate is as high as 250m3/h of solids in suspension, with the ability to discharge the spoil up to 5km without a booster station. In addition to general dredging works, the machine's capability is extended by the provision of specially developed cutter heads. The article includes a general arrangement drawing of the dredger.
