EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATIONS OF THE INTERACTION BETWEEN THE NEGATIVE/POSITIVE JET OF THE WAKE AND THE BOUNDARY LAYER
Due to the wakes the inception of the laminar turbulent transition in the boundary layer can be displaced upstream. Investigations were carried out to examine the interaction of the wakes and the boundary layer in the region close to the natural laminar-turbulent transition. The oncoming wake generated by pendulating motion of a cylinder upstream of the flat plate influences the boundary layer as an alternating negative and positive jet. The investigations lead to the conclusion that the negative jet can precipitate the laminar-turbulent transition while the positive jet can stabilize the boundary layer.
