MULTI-COMPONENT PROPULSORS FOR MERCHANT SHIPS - DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS AND MODEL TEST RESULTS
The subject of this paper is the design of contrarotating propellers and a stator-rotor combination for a fictitious application. The load distributions have not always been selected optimum due to different reasons which are explained. Four different propulsors have been realised as models. They have been tested in open water tests, cavitation observations and flow field measurement sin the slipstream using laser doppler velocimeter technique. Test results and design calculations are compared and some conclusions are drawn.
