SOCIAL IMPACT ANALYSIS IN THE PLANNING PROCESS

The author argues that social impact analysis in road planning should be distinctively sociological and multidimensional, and should include consideration of the relationship between social parameters and other planning and evaluation criteria. A conceptual clarification of environmental impact statements is presented as a basis for a discussion of problems of social impact analysis. Social impact analysis is contrasted with a social evaluation frame of reference, and the argument is extended to indicate the distinctive contribution of sociological analysis to a multi-disciplinary road planning process. /TRRL/
