GAS TURBINES IN TODAY'S PASSENGER VESSELS
The paper describes the 5000 KW Taurus 60M gas turbine for high speed marine transportation. The gas turbine is a robust, modularly constructed, proven industrial-derivative power plant that includes selected design features adapted from aero-derivative engines such as cooled first-stage turbine nozzles and turbine blades for long life and high performance. It is a simple cycle, two shaft machine with a free power turbine assembly for high efficiency and power extraction. It is constructed with materials selected for durability in the marine environment.
