DEVELOPMENT OF A DIESEL-POWERED, HEAVY LIFT, AMPHIBIOUS AIR CUSHION LIGHTER SYSTEM FOR THE US ARMY
In order to provide additional over-the-shore logistics for US troops, the US Army recently solicited a proposal for the design and construction of a new Lighter Amphibious-Heavy (LAMP-H) vehicle. The vehicle had to be capable of carrying 100 short tons of deck cargo at 10 knots and be fully amphibious. The basic design philosophy followed is similar to that for any other high technology watercraft in that a lightweight durable structure is designed and powered by modern, lightweight marine diesel engines.
