INNOVATIVE TANKER DESIGN AND THE COBO CONCEPT
In this study, several environmental tanker design concepts have been systematically investigated for: analysis of the concept, deduction of outflow prevention principles and a brief evaluation rating. Many of the concepts investigated focus on only one principle, but some combine several for improved outflow prevention. Some principles have not yet reached a practical application level, but are mentioned to stimulate further improvements leading to more realistic solutions. A total of 15 principles are identified and listed together with a shore description and a brief evaluation rating, which gives an indication of the potential application in tanker design. The total outflow process is analyzed to ensure that the major aspects of oil spill prevention are addressed.
