THE DEFLECTOGRAPH - A PRACTICAL CONCEPT
The paper is written from the practical point of view, based on some two years' continuous use of the deflectograph. Attention is focussed on the need for a full engineering assessment to be carried out before decision-making; the deflectograph should not be used in isolation. Examples are given of possible developments of the deflectograph. Potential errors are discussed and attention drawn to the quality of traffic information used in the design of overlays and of new carriageways to Road Note 29 standards. Typical operating and survey costs are given so that the engineer can see the benefits of using these survey techniques. /TRRL/
