AZIPOD GIVES NEW DIMENSION TO SHIP PROPULSION
The article describes an azimuthing electric propulsion drive known as Azipod. Basically, the Azipod system consists of an electric alternating current motor located inside a pod and driving a fixed pitch propeller. Use of this system eliminates the need for long shaftlines, rudders, stern thrusters, CP-propellers and reduction gears. It is available for power up to 20MW.
