SYSTEMS ENGINEERING AND THE ROAD LOAD ECONOMICS PROBLEM: ANOTHER STEP TOWARDS THE OPTIMUM AXLE LOAD
The methodology of systems engineering is briefly described. Systems analysis is discussed in more detail with particular emphasis on the assessment of data requirements for a large research project using a sensitivity analysis. The background of the "road load economics problem" is outlined. Then the application of a sensitivity analysis to this problem is described. The major findings are given. Some examples of their use in determining Australian road research board (arrb) research priorities are described. It is hoped that they will also be of use to the national association of Australian state road authorities (naasra) road load economics study. (a).
