REDUNDANT SHIP MACHINERY PAYS
A Scandinavian consortium, which has studied the feasibility of various options for incorporating redundancy in merchant ships claims that to avoid the need for on-voyage repairs ships, such as tankers and passenger vessels, should not be built with engine-room machinery containing many components whose failure are critical to the ship's propulsion or manoeuvring.
