SHALLOW WATER EFFECTS FOR SWATH SHIPS
Shallow water changes the hydrodynamics of SWATH ships considerably. A three-dimensional panel method based on potential flow computes resistance, dynamical sinkage and trim moment well, except near critical depth Froude numbers Fnh approximately equal 1. Disagreement between towing tank results and computations do not necessarily indicate shortcomings of the computations. The test geometry is mathematically described and can be used for validation of codes.
