REPLACEMENT AND MAINTENANCE OPTIMISATION OF MARINE SYSTEMS UNDER BUDGET CONDITIONS
Optimisation of maintenance and replacement actions has been one of the major problems in the marine industry. Traditional replacement and maintenance models usually assume unlimited capital. However, ship operators are frequently restricted by limited maintenance and investment funds. Under budge constraints, the replacement and maintenance decisions must be determined simultaneously. Interdependence of decisions significantly increased the computational difficulty. The authors describe an integer programming model and discuss a Lagrangian-based methodology with an example. The model is applicable to the maintenance and replacement of a single ship as well as an entire ship fleet, considering different options under budget constraints.
